Patch Hamilton-Wenham, MA --
Today is Friday, April 5. Here are five things you need to know in Hamilton and Wenham:
*1. Sun:* We should expect to see the sun again on Friday, with the temperature getting back into the 50s on Friday. The wind will blow out of the east up to 10 miles per hour.
*2. China:* Photographer and tour guide Richard Ferland arrives at Hamilton-Wenham Library on Friday morning to take audience members on a whirlwind tour of China. The program, which runs 10:15 a.m. to noon, will discuss communication, etiquette, and a few key phrases for China travelers. It is free and open to the public.
*3. Who Knows?:* Pingree School's special programs for middle school students called "Who Knows?" gets going on Friday. The classes include topics ranging from robotics and playwriting and meet for five weeks on Friday, except a break for April vacation.
*4. Walk to Work:* Friday is Walk to Work Day. In the two towns, it seems rare that we see people who walk to work, even if they wnated to do it. Nationally, less than 5 percent of people walk to work. The goal of the day is to “encourage Americans to be more active by walking to work instead of driving.” Do you ever walk to work? Do you know anyone who can walk to work?
*5. Bald Eagles:* The state Department of Fish and Game’s Division of Fisheries and Wildlife will conduct its spring nesting eagle survey on Friday. The count will be focused on the coast as well as major rivers and water bodies. Don’t forget, this past winter several bald eagles were spotted for several days on Wenham Lake. The springtime count replaces MassWildlife’s participation in the national Midwinter Bald Eagle Survey because bald eagle numbers have greatly increased and the bird has been removed from the Federal Endangered Species List.
