SAE International will hold four automotive engineering professional development seminars this July at the Ramada Parkside Beijing Hotel in Beijing, China.
The seminars include:
· July 8-10 – “Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) Engines”
The quest for more efficient, smarter, and environmentally cleaner, liquid-fueled, spark ignition reciprocating engines is the driving force behind this year’s Gasoline Direct Injection Engines Seminar. This seminar will describe the rationale behind the GDI engine operation, analyze the important processes in GDI engines, explain liquid atomization, sprays, and injector requirements, and other topics that will help attendees better understand GDI engines. The seminar will include an overview of a selection of prototype and production engines.
The instructor of the course is Chief Scientist and Group Leader at Advanced Technology Consultants, Dr. Bruce Chehroudi. Dr. Chehroudi specializes in fluid mechanics and heat transfer, laser optical diagnostics, internal combustion engine, gas turbine and rocket engines, structure of sprays, gas turbine engines, combustion, fuel injection issues and emission of pollutants.
· July 8-9 – “Introduction to Battery Pack Design, Integration, and Validation in China”
China’s vehicle market is requiring new and better sources of energy, which has significantly increased their development in battery systems. This seminar will introduce participants to system level design considerations, including battery and vehicle interface requirements, battery design and production validations, design changes and, unfortunately, the inevitable performance compromises. The seminar will also have an in-depth study of system electronics, thermal management, performance, and CAN communication requirements.
The instructor of the course is Dr. Ying Wang, Deputy Director in the Engineering and Product Development Department at SAIC Motor Corporation Limited in Shanghai, China. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Analytical Chemistry from Jilin University and her Ph.D. in Electroanalytical Chemistry from the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
· July 11-12 – “Combustion and Emissions for Engineers”
Engineers have been forced to better understand the combustion process and its cause of pollutants, due to the recent increase in public awareness regarding pollutants and adverse health effects of emissions. In this seminar, attendees will be able to identify and describe the important processes in combustion and emission, identify formative mechanisms and reduction strategies, the effects of engine design and operating conditions, after-treatment of pollutants, underlying laws and principles, and other explanations pertaining to combustion and emission.
The instructor is Dr. Bruce Chehroudi, Chief Scientist and Group Leader at Advanced Technology Consultants as well as instructor of “Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) Engines”. As stated in the GDI Engines seminar section, Dr. Chehroudi specializes in fluid mechanics and heat transfer, laser optical diagnostics, internal combustion engine, gas turbine and rocket engines, structure of sprays, gas turbine engines, combustion, fuel injection issues and emission of pollutants.
· July 11-12 – “Powertrain Architecture, Controls, Energy Management Systems of EV and HEV”
Developing environmentally cleaner and more fuel efficient vehicles is transforming the automotive industry worldwide, particularly in China. Attendees of this seminar will receive an overview of hybrid electric vehicle propulsion systems followed by design and control approaches for series, parallel, and plug-in hybrid powertrains. High efficiency energy management strategies are also addressed. Demonstrations and case work is utilized to provide attendees with a hands-on approach to learning.
Dr. Yuxiang Jiang is the instructor for this course, as well as serving as the Chief Engineer of Powertrains at the Commercial Vehicle Technical Center of SAIC Motor Corporation Limited. Dr. Jaing received his B.S. and M.S. in Thermal-Automotive Engineering from Tsinghua University as well as his M.B. A. in Business Administration from the University of Michigan. His Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering came from the University of Illinois.
This seminar will be presented in Mandarin Chinese. The material will be in Chinese and English.
