KidCo Inc. Recalls Infant Travel Tent Evanston, IL --

Libertyville-based KidCo Inc.ext is voluntarily recalling about 220,000 PeaPod and PeaPod Plus Travel Beds following a baby's death and numerous reports of infants becoming entrapped, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commissionext (CPSC).

The recall affects 220,000 PeaPod and PeaPod Plus Travel Bedsext, the CPSC said. Infants and young children can roll off the edge of the inflatable air mattress, become entrapped between the mattress and the fabric sides of the tent, and suffocate, according to a release.

Consumers should immediately stop using the tents and contact KidCo to get a free repair kit. The kits will vary depending on the model and will be shipped to consumers starting in December 2012. Contact KidCo toll-free at (855) 847-8600 between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. (CT) Monday through Friday or visit the firm’s websiteext to receive the kit.

CPSC is aware of a death of a five-month-old boy in December 2011 in New York, N.Y.,ext who was found with his face pressed against the side wall of the tent. The cause of death was not determined.

There have also been six reports in the U.S. and three reports in Canada where  children became entrapped or experienced physical distress in the product. Two of the six reports included infants who were found crying underneath of the mattress that had not been inserted into the zippered pocket on the bottom of the tent, the release stated.

The model number can be found on a small tag on the underside of the product.

The travel tents were made in China and sold at independent specialty stores nationwide and online at Amazon.comext from January 2005 through the present for between $70 and $100. Reported by Patch 5 hours ago.
